How To: The Korean Skincare Routine
The world of K-beauty is advancing every day - whether it's a new formulation of an anti-aging serum or a super innovative face mask that's made to dry invisible. How about for today, we get back down to the basics? ☺
STEP 1 - CLEANSING
If you are a skincare junkie like us, you may have heard of double cleansing. This is the process of a 2-step cleansing routine consisting of an oil cleanser and a water-based cleanser. The first step draws out impurities such as sebum, sunscreen, and excess oils, while the second step purifies the skin out of sweat and dirt. (TIP! Using a cleansing brush during your water-based cleansing helps with blackheads!)
Our favorites: The Banila Co. Original Cleansing Balm and the Etude House Soon Jung pH6.5 Whip Cleanser.
STEP 2 - TONER
This is what helps to balance your skin’s pH level and get rid of any other impurities left on your skin after cleansing. Plus, it helps get rid of that tight feeling after a super good cleanse.
Our favorites: COSRX Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner and the TONYMOLY Wonder Ceramide Mocchi Toner
STEP 3 - ESSENCE, SERUM, AND (OR) AMPOULE
These are the 3 types of concentrated formulas you can use to target a specific skin concern. Essences are usually watery while serums and ampoules are thicker in consistency and more concentrated.
Our favorites: Elizavecca 100% Hyaluronic Acid and COSRX Propolis Light Ampoule
STEP 4 - LOTIONS, CREAMS
Finally! The last step of the routine. ☺ A moisturizer. This is what seals everything in, and makes everything you just put on your face, worth it. Whether you have super dry skin or oily, it's important to wear a moisturizer to maintain a protective barrier against the outside air and pollution - oh, and not to mention that extra boost of hydration!
